Otis Lamont Williams, the son of Otis Williams, died in a labour accident in Detroit, where he worked as a construction worker, in 1983. Otis Lamont Williams was born in 1961, the same year his father wed Josephine Rogers for the first time. In 1941, Otis Williams was born to Otis Miles and Hazel Louise Williams.

Otis Williams is a record producer, songwriter, and founding member of The Temptations. He is the only original member still alive. He began his career as a baritone singer and songwriter in Detroit, where he achieved commercial success with The Temptations’ early single “Dream Come True.” Williams was featured on all of The Temptations’ albums, from “Meet the Temptations” in 1964 through “Phoenix Rising” in 1998, despite never singing lead on the group’s songs.

Williams had an interest in music from a young age, assuming his mother’s maiden name for high school performances. He founded several singing ensembles, such as Otis Williams and The Siberians, The El Domingoes, and The Distants. The Distants were the most successful of these bands, achieving minor local popularity and gaining record companies’ interest. After Motown Records offered to sign The Distants, Williams departed the group. He later formed the band The Elgins with a former member of The Distants. In March 1961, Motown signed this group under the name The Temptations.

With numerous lineup changes, The Temptations went on to become one of the most popular bands of the following decades. Williams lasted in the Temptations longer than any other member and is currently the only founding member still alive. Williams rarely sang lead vocals in the band’s songs, opting to contribute mid-range background vocals or spoken word sounds instead.

Additionally, Otis Williams has a daughter from his third marriage to Arleata “Goldie” Williams. Elan Carter, who was born in 1983, debuted in the June 1994 issue of Playboy as the Playmate of the Month. In 1997, Arleata and Otis divorced.

Ann Cain was the second wife of Williams. They were wed between 1967 and 1973. He was also rumoured to have dated Florence Ballard of The Supremes and Patti LaBelle, a notable R&B singer.
