The RHS group, founded in 1998 by the artist Sue Ellen Cooper, has spawned around 40,000 chapters in the United States and 30 other nations. The RHS’s primary purpose is to encourage social interaction among women.
Women of the RHS wear red hats and purple outfits to group gatherings to denote their membership. Women under the age of 50 may participate in activities, but they are required to wear pink caps and lavender dresses to indicate their youth.
