When a background object is immediately in front of or behind a subject, it is referred to as a merger in photography. If there are several topics in the image, a merger may also happen if the two primary subjects touch or cross over the edges of the frame.
A merging could spoil a well composed snapshot or cause the background object to detract from the main subject of the image. In photography, a faulty angle can cause a tree to appear to be sprouting out of a subject’s head. Photographers should focus on the entire frame and change angles as needed to prevent merges.
