Common 2-quart casserole plates have interior dimensions of 8 inches wide by 8 inches long by 2 inches deep, or 9 inches in circumference and 2 inches in depth. Depending on the size of the rim and handles, if present, an additional inch or more is added to the outer dimensions.
Other casserole shapes may be used for a 2-quart casserole by altering the cooking time and temperature. A baking dish measuring 11 by 7 by 1.5 inches and a loaf pan measuring 9 by 5 by 3 inches are likewise capable of holding 2 quarts. The baking dish makes the filling more shallow, so the baking time must be reduced and the oven temperature must be slightly increased. Due to the increased depth of the filling in the loaf pan, the baking time and temperature must be increased.
