On Friday President Donald Trump took to his favorite pastime, Twitter to slam NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for "losing control of the hemorrhaging league” over players kneeling during the national anthem.
This war has been waging for a long while now as Trump has used Goodell and the NFL players as whipping posts for political propaganda. The President and many of his followers don't seem to realize that you cannot force personal action from anyone, legally.
Though that small fact doesn't seem relevant in this battle. The President continued his Tweet storm saying :
“Can you believe that the disrespect for our Country, our Flag, our Anthem continues without penalty to the players, the Commissioner has lost control of the hemorrhaging league. Players are the boss!”
The President has criticized Goodell for not penalizing players who kneel during the anthem. A gesture of peaceful protest for racial inequality and police misconduct.
He has also targeted specific players, such as the Oakland Raiders’ Marshawn Lynch and Colin Kapernick, writing that players who don’t kneel during the anthem should be suspended.
Twitter weighed in on both sides of the issue.
our narcissist in chief is still upset they didn't let his team into the league and is holding another grudge. Trump is a loser, which is why they didn't want him in the first place.— the Big Picture (@jt_mencken) November 24, 2017
Goodell has made some enemies from Trump's camp as well.
Trump is not after the players/ they are paws. Trump wants Roger Goodell taken out. Ends NFL dirty business....— Angelia Renae (@RenaeAngelia) November 24, 2017
Roger Goodell has no control of this situation. he has been playing both sides to avoid conflict. he said he wants players to stand but wont force them. that is not how the NFL commissioner should be handling this.— Truth (@SpecialEDxx) November 24, 2017
Donald Trump loves America & wants people to respect the anthem.
