Yesterday we lost an amazing actress, a woman whom many of us grew up knowing almost as if she were family. Carrie Fisher is gone far too soon.
But it would be just too easy for us to sit here and mourn Ms. Fisher's passing. Sadness fell heavy and fast yesterday with the unexpected announcement. But, if you ask me, I don't think Carrie would approve of us sulking around in the first place.
No, I think that she would want us to laugh. And laugh so hard that we could barely breathe. How do I know that? Well, if you've paid much attention to her in recent years, you've noticed how uproariously funny she is. According to her, any time was the perfect time for laughter.
Including, for instance, this interview on Good Morning America where Carrie was promoting the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
This beyond hilarious interview begins with a laughter-inducing visual: Carrie has mandated that her dog, Gary, be part of the interview. And there the pooch is, sitting next to her on his own director's chair. He is there, Carrie informs us, because his permanently lolling tongue matches the color of her sweater.
And the hilarity only takes off from there. Over the course of this six-ish minute interview, Carrie has not only the interviewer in hysterics, but also the entire behind-camera crew. Carrie tackles everything from unfairness in Hollywood in regards to women to how she deals with the fact that people will actually call "Princess Leia!" out to her in public.
I'll admit it: this video was exactly what I needed to see. To me, it's a good send-off for her. Carrie Fisher always wanted us to laugh. She wanted every single person to laugh. Unless you were mean or cruel or unfair to her. Then she wanted to tear you apart on her Twitter.
