The national weather center has released the official list of names for potential storms that could be born during the 2017-2018 season and the role call has been met with a "frosty" response.

The list presented in alphabetical order goes as such :

Not that this isn't a list of perfectly suitable names. It does though have the feel of a Williamsburg/Millennial/Too Cool Indie Artist/Kids with nannies vibe. Makes you wonder whatever happend to the good ole stalwarts like Gertrude, Agnes, Bill or Irma?

Storms are at the least intended to sound imposing or slightly fear inducing. This list sort of reads like the baristas at the cafe that charge you $10.50 for a small cold brew. (Not that that isn't fear inducing itself.)

The reactions on Twitter upon announcement?

Now the Weather Channel did admit this roster was compiled after research from the list of the current most popular baby names.

Although that doesn't seem to make anyone embrace the choices any better.

Now THAT, is funny and sadly spot on.

The weather channel may want to rethink some of these names, especially if they want people to heed storm warnings and not just chuckle at what could be impending doom.

These names should be tested for reaction before cemented.

Example :

"Everyone should be prepared, this is going to be a horrific, near catastrophic experience. We must take Winter Storm... Skylar very seriously?"

Reaction :

Yeah, we saw that one coming. Although every season does have it's one name or two that leaves you wandering, "where in the world did they find that one?"
