On Wednesday, April 19th, the White House played host to the New England Patriots in honor of their Super Bowl win this past February. While they were in the building, Rob Gronkowski, the world's greatest tight end and all-around caring soul, must have been thinking of Sean Spicer's many recent gaffes. Eager to be of assistance, he poked his head around the corner during a press briefing to casually ask if Sean needed some help.The answer was yes.
The Patriots who actually visited the White House may have been given a little more leeway than usual. Many, including running back LeGarrette Blount, linebacker Dont’a Hightower, tight end Martellus Bennett, and MVP quarterback Tom Brady chose not to attend for reasons both personal and political. The absences were especially noticeable when President Trump called on wide receiver Danny Amendola to step forward, only to find he had not come.
MVP Tom Brady's absence was particularly odd, considering his personal friendship with Donald Trump prior to the election. Coach Bill Belichick is also a famous Trump-supporter and the Patriots' owner, Robert K. Kraft, contributed $1 million to Trump’s inauguration festivities.
