GOP Misquotes Abraham Lincoln On His Birthday, And Twitter Ripped Them Apart

This past weekend, the Grand Ole Party decided that they would celebrate the birthday of President Abraham Lincoln with a beautiful photo and quote of their party's most celebrated former leader.

The only problem with the GOP's plan? The quote that they attributed to Abraham Lincoln may have never actually been said by the man.

A deep search of the internet shows that Lincoln never said this in any letter or speech or interview. In fact, many believe that this quote actually came from an old newspaper advertisement for a book about aging that came out back in the 1940s called The Second Forty Years. The quote has also erroneously been attributed to 1950's Democratic presidential candidate Adlai Stevenson.

The GOP has not yet deleted the tweet, and Twitter is not going to let a perfect opportunity for a mocking meme to go to waste. And so here we are.

The GOP's #1 side-thorn spoke up first.

And then the meme began.
