The unnamed buyer has now established himself as one of the most dedicated members of Nintendo fans in the world. The mint condition 1985 game from Pennsylvania-based classic video game trader DKOldies sold for the exact price of $30,100.44.

While many are skeptical of the price, since most video game enthusiasts will have a copy or two of the classic cartridge lying around, there's one distinct feature of this purchase that makes it worth the price tag: a hangtag on the back of the plastic wrapping.

DKOldies CEO Drew Steimel told Mashable, after talking with Nintendo fans on Reddit, "They said the reason that game went for so much was because Mario was always sold in the system. You bought it with the system, it came in the box. This particular copy was from before that happened, before Nintendo decided to bundle them. They only did it for a short time."

Because of one little tag, this staple of any video game collection is worth more than many cars.

The unnamed buyer wasn't only interested in Mario, according to DKOldies. He also picked up an $11,000 copy of another Nintendo game, "Kid Icarus." Seems he's more than serious about his Nintendo paraphernalia.
