The firing sequence for the ignition of a 454ci Chevrolet is 1, 8, 4, 3, 6, 5, 7, 2. The odd cylinders are located on the right side of the engine, with cylinder 1 being the closest. The cylinders with even numbers are on the left, beginning with cylinder 2.
To ensure proper routing of spark plug wires, verify that the piston of cylinder 1 on the front driver’s side is positioned at top dead centre, the highest point in its cylinder. The rotor within the distributor cap is then aligned with the cylinder 1 spark plug terminal. Depending on the rotation of the rotor, the remaining wires are wrapped clockwise or counterclockwise around the distributor before being connected to the spark plugs in the correct firing order.
