In 2010, Elizabeth Franks, better known as Buffy Waltrip, divorced her ex-husband Michael Waltrip. They were married for seventeen years. Michael Waltrip is a professional race car driver, published author, and racing pundit. He is a co-owner of Michael Waltrip Racing.
Elizabeth Buffy Franks met Michael Waltrip in August 1992. The pair wed on November 27, 1993, and have a daughter as a result. After the divorce, Buffy gained custody of the child. During her marriage, Buffy was the owner of Nascar race car No. 55, driven by Michael Waltrip.
In 2008, when Buffy ceased turning up at the racing shop, rumours of the couple’s divorce began to circulate in the public. They made no public appearances and put their home on the market. In 2010, the divorce was legally finalised.
Michael Waltrip has said that the racing accident that killed his mentor Dale Earnhardt during the 2001 Daytona 500 contributed to the divorce. He states in his book “In the Blink of an Eye: Dale, Daytona, and the Day that Changed Everything” that he never coped with the tragedy or sought professional help. Buffy is currently married to Adam Hawthorne as of July 2015.
