The city of London is a popular location for movies and TV shows, with many well-known films having been shot in the capital city.

The rapid popularity of films being frequently shot in London without a shadow of a doubt helps boost the popularity of the UK film industry and has managed to bring tourists from all of the world to come to London and check out some of the fabulous sights of where some of their favourite scenes have filmed for TV and film shows.

Paddington (2014)

A famous English railway station that has been featured in a movie about the world’s most loved bear. Paddington is named after the place where he was found by the Brown family after the bear had moved away from Peru.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

One of the most memorable aspects of the Harry Potter franchise is when all the promising young wizards run through the wall at platform 9 ¾ at Kings Cross station.

In honour of the franchise due to popular request, the authorities at King’s Cross station placed a platform 9 ¾ sign which is located between platforms 9 and 10 at the station, and this has managed to attract huge global attraction from people all over the world.

Rogue One

Star Wars manages to bring London to the forefront in this prequel addition to the franchise. In Rogue One, the prequel film set before the events of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, we get to see a glimpse of the backdrop of Canary Wharf station as characters Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), Cassian Landor (Diego Luna), K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) are running away from stormtroopers.

Shooting videos in London has proved to be beneficial for both companies who are looking forward to making their video ads more attractive and appealing, as well as the economy of the UK which is developing at a very fast pace.

Starting in the 2000s, Hollywood studios started looking to other countries for filming locations. The industry had fallen on hard times and was trying anything it could to cut costs. One of those was relocating film productions to foreign nations with generous tax breaks and financial incentives, such as Canada.

While Canada continues to be one of the favorite venues for American filmmakers, a new locus of film finance has emerged: Great Britain. Tax subsidies and British culture/history seem to be luring American studios to England where they can make films more cheaply and take advantage of a growing worldwide interest in its heritage.

In the last few years, Hollywood studios have been flocking to London in a way that hasn’t been seen in a very long time. In fact, it’s becoming a trend to pick up and move production from the USA over to Britain.

There are some reasons for this including reduced costs, increased tax incentives and locations, skilled, well-trained crew members and infrastructure, as well as the fact that the UK has become a more competitive market to shoot in.

Between 2008 and 2013, a total of 105 US film/TV dramas were shot on location in London. These productions included The Dark Knight Rises, Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol starring Tom Cruise, World War Z starring Brad Pitt, and Captain America: The First Avenger starring Chris Evans, to name just a few.

Every major studio has shooting locations in London including Universal Studios (Fast & Furious 6 & 7), Paramount Pictures ( Mission Impossible 4), Disney ( Maleficent with Angelina Jolie), Warner Bros ( Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jr), Twentieth Century Fox ( The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ), and even New Line Cinema ( Jack the Giant Slayer ).

In addition to this, major television networks such as HBO, ABC, NBC and CBS have all had productions shot in London over the last few years.
