Use the Remington Serial Number Lookup tool to look up a serial number. To identify the age of the firearm, this service employs the two-letter numbers stamped on the barrel of Remington rifles and shotguns. By emailing Remington support, you can also find the serial number on the rifle’s receiver and ask for an estimated age.
If the Remington rifle or shotgun is a more recent model, a serial number is printed on the receiver. Older rifles might not have serial numbers because serial numbers were not required until 1968.
The two-letter code on the rifle or shotgun’s barrel can still be used to check the weapon’s age. Just in front of the receiver, on the left side of the barrel, is where you’ll find this code. With the letters B-L-A-C-K-P-O-W-D-E-R-X indicating the months in order, starting with B for January, L for February, and so on, the first letter of the code denotes the month of manufacturing. Using the Remington Serial Number Lookup, you can determine the year of manufacturing from the next one or two letters. The code on the barrel of a shotgun with a detachable barrel indicates the date of manufacturing of the barrel, which might not coincide with the date of manufacture of the receiver.
