Cubic feet and square feet cannot be converted directly. Cubic feet refers to the volume of an object in three dimensions. Surface area is referred to as square feet. Using the dimensions from the computation of cubic feet, it is feasible to compute the surface area of an object in square feet.

Separate the width and length

Length multiplied by width multiplied by height yields the cubic footage of a typical square or rectangular item. Since only length and breadth are required to calculate square footage, exclude the height and record only the length and width of the surface area.

Establish the area formula

In the formula, substitute the actual length and breadth. For instance, if an object is 8 feet tall, 3.5 feet long, and 2 feet wide, the formula is 3.5 x 2.

Determine the area in square feet

Determine the product of length multiplied by width. In the example, 3.5 multiplied by 2 equals 7. The area of the object is therefore 7 square feet. With a height of 8 feet, the object’s volume is 8 x 7, or 56 cubic feet. A 14-foot-tall, 2-foot-long, and 2-foot-wide item also has the same volume in cubic feet as 56 cubic feet, but its area in square feet is different.
