Is Alex Smith a Mormon?

As of March 2014, it is unknown whether NFL quarterback Alex Smith is a Mormon. Although there are suspicions of an affiliation, Smith has never officially disclosed his religion, and he is not included on a list commemorating the League’s Mormon players.

Much of the conjecture that Alex Smith is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints undoubtedly stems from the fact that he attended college in Utah, where up to 60 percent of the population is Mormon. However, opponents are eager to point out that Smith was born and reared in Southern California. In addition, Smith attended the University of Utah, which is a major rival of the Mormon-affiliated Brigham Young University.
