The clothing line has come under fire from Twitter users after selling a skirt featuring appliqués resembling Pepe the Frog, an internet meme that is widely known as a symbol for neo-Nazis and the white nationalist alt-right movement.
The skirt has since been pulled from the Zara website.
Pepe the Frog was created in 2005 by cartoonist Matt Furie as a friendly, chill frog for the comic series Boy's Club, but was eventually appropriated by hate groups to spew nationalist, anti-immigrant, and anti-Semitic rhetoric.
The usage got so bad that the Pepe meme was eventually declared a hate symbol by the Anti-Defamation League in September of 2016.
