President Donald Trump was apparently very "disturbed" by Melissa McCarthy's portrayal of White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on SNL.
Sources close to the president who spoke to Politico admitted that Trump views Spicer’s portrayal by a woman as particularly "problematic," and that it could threaten his longevity in the position within the administration.
And according to a top Trump donor, "Trump doesn't like his people to look weak."
Indeed, Trump was so troubled by McCarthy's lampooning––which went viral almost instantly––that his Twitter feed remained uncharacteristically silent over the weekend.
For his part, Spicer admits that he found McCarthy's portrayal rather funny, but, as he said in an interview with Extra, she “needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there.” He did say in another phone interview that he would rather have focus stay on "the president's agenda" and, when asked for his personal reaction to the skit, said, "It doesn't matter what I think."
Spicer's allies also came to his defense. "He takes the job seriously but doesn't take himself that seriously," said a person close to Spicer. "He knows that put him up on the stratosphere of recognition on a level. You've got to embrace it."
And it's still hilarious. You can watch it again below.
