A year after the catastrophic 2016 defeat, Democrats are in dire need of new faces with fresh ideas. Yet many of the leading contenders for the White House in 2020 are politicians who have been around for decades. There’s also no clear standout in the potential field.
Not great news considering that the next election WILL BE the single most essential, future defining election in history.
Political publication, The Hill took to Capitol Hill and conducted a survey amongst prominent party leaders to see who currently is looking like the next white horse.
The person on the top of the list is a bit of a surprise as it's none other than the Independent turned Democratic Senator form Vermont, Bernie Sanders.
The Bern is still burning apparently. This actually has been a quiet rumor making the rounds since last November.
Sanders, who will be nearly 80 for the next campaign cycle is popular still amongst the base but doesn't really scream new blood.
Twitter had some initial thoughts.
There are a whole lot of us Dem voters right here who disagree. No more old white men, especially ones who aren't even Democrats. Nope. No way. And I'm an old white woman.— Ellen Hopkins (@EllenHopkinsLit) November 25, 2017
This Dem won’t either. We need to move away from this guy, sooner rather than later. Another opportunist. I am tired of voting for old white men of any and all parties.— M J Teston (@mteston1) November 24, 2017
The young people I know are not young and dumb. Refreshingly woke and recognize a con when it is being played on them. The fact that Bernie lacked sensitivity about issues of race sealed their disinterest in feeling the Burn.— Safiyah Noor (@SafiyahNoor1) November 24, 2017
Not this one...Dems put Bernie in I am done voting Dem.— caty zeitler (@RubberRoomHotel) November 24, 2017
Party over ideas am I right?? That worked so well last election 🙄— The New Underground (@new_underground) November 24, 2017
Um, who did they ask???? He’s not this democrat’s first choice...— Sandy Thompson🇺🇸 (@sandyth33az) November 24, 2017
Looks like that poll may need a recount. Yes, it seems Bernie may have been swindled last time around by the DNC but handing him the next chance isn't looking like the most popular option.
A few other names being jockeyed about are Elizabeth Wareen, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris and Deval Patrick. Also not the newest names but definitely a better place to start looking.
