Sacramento Baptist preacher Roger Jiminez is getting a lot of attention. And not necessarily the kind he might like. This religious leader on the west coast has gone viral this week due to a recording of a 45-minute-long sermon that he gave in response to the 49 deaths that occurred at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida. Many religious leaders around the world have stepped up to show their solidarity and support; Pastor Jiminez was not one of them. The preacher delivered his angry and celebratory tirade from behind a pulpit at Verity Baptist Church. The church then posted the video to their YouTube channel. That was when it started getting attention.
Pastor Jiminez said:
Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today? Um no, I think that’s great! I think that helps society. I think Orlando, Florida is a little safer tonight.Later in the sermon, the preacher added:
If we lived in a righteous government, they should round them all up and put them up against a firing wall, and blow their brains out.
The full video is upsetting and disrespectful, and can be found on YouTube. The sermon went on for forty-five minutes. Jiminez delivered the fire and brimstone sermon this past Sunday morning, right around the time that President Barack Obama addressed the nation on the tragedy. A local news channel went directly to the pastor's home for a comment. He refused to allow cameras into his house, nor would he make any official comments. All he said was that he had other matters to attend to and was rather busy. As this video continues to go viral, we imagine that we will learn more about Pastor Roger Jiminez. Hopefully for him, he will be ready and prepared for the increased scrutiny and attention. H/T: YouTube, CBS Local
