First dates can be pretty painful at times.

The show First Dates, which airs on Britain's Channel 4, showcases the awkwardness of attempting to find love, and in one recent episode, highlights the horrors of what can go wrong.

Russell, a property developer, was on a first date with comedienne Kelly, and he decided to give her his take on comedy, and female comedians in general.

Things did not go well.

As soon as Russell sat down, he complimented Kelly on her appearance, saying she looked "nice," adding, "well, for a comedian...you look hot."

Jenny was not amused.

Russell, not taking the hint, continued, saying, "Female stand-up comedians. They're not usually that attractive. They're quite fat."

He followed it up with, "Men are usually funnier."

But the fun didn't stop there.

Then Russell decided to make things more personal, saying, "What's your comedy like? Because right now it's pretty sh*t."

Charming.
