The drama surrounding Lena Dunham's former dog Lamby somehow continues. For those of you who don't know, Dunham introduced Lamby to the world in 2014 via his own Instagram account, a Vogue editorial spread, and a New Yorker article. Since then, Dunham featured Lamby in innumerable social media posts, even as she pointed out his aggressive tendencies. Though Dunham claims to love Lamby more than anything, it seems their time together has come to a close - Lena chose to give him away.
On June 21st, responding to fans who wondered what Lamby was up to recently, Dunham posted an extended response explaining her side of the story. She claimed that Lamby came from an abusive household and needed more care than she was able to provide:
Dunham's decision to give up Lamby has sparked an intense controversy online, with many believing it was the right choice but many others claiming it was a selfish step to take. Extending the drama, BARC, the New York City animal shelter that Dunham adopted Lamby from, issued a statement poking some holes in Lena's claim that Lamby was abused before their time together:
When she adopted the dog from us, it wasn’t crazy. I have pictures of the dog loving on Lena and her mom, which is weird if the dog was abused. It wouldn’t be cuddling with her or be in the bed with her ‘boyfriend’ in the pages of Vogue...We would have told her if the dog had issues. We are a no-kill shelter. We don’t lie about the dogs’ histories because that gets them returned — and mentally it’s not good for dogs.
