Tony Winner Lea Salonga To Lead International Production Of FUN HOME

A certain star has kept herself very busy lately with her return to Broadway starring in Allegiance - A New Musical after having served as a coach on the Philippine's version of The Voice and touring with her concert, "Lea Salonga: Playlist," which celebrated her 35 years in show business. A recent announcement indicates that there are no signs of her losing momentum, as Lea Salonga is poised to join the Bechdel family when she returns to her home in Manila. Hot off her recent success as Kei Kimura in Broadway's Allegiance - A New Musicalalso starring George Takei, Tony winner Lea Salonga will head the first international production of the Tony Award-winning musical Fun Home in the role of Helen. The word on the block is that the show is scheduled for its international debut in late 2016.

Broadway favorite Salonga made her announcement in the Phillipine Daily Inquirer, stating that she would be starring as the family matriarch in the multi-award winning Broadway musical Fun Home, based on the graphic novel and life of Alison Bechdel. The hit musical, about a dysfunctional family depicted through three stages of the protagonist's life and told in retrospect as an adult, was referred to as "the first mainstream musical about a lesbian" and heralded by Ben Brantley of the New York Times as "a beautiful heartbreaker of a musical."

Referring to FUN HOME as "an emotional roller coaster," Salonga writes:
"Well, allow me to be one of the first to announce that Fun Home will be coming to Manila in late 2016, thanks to Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group, the same people bringing in The Bridges of Madison County this year (opening tomorrow!), and whose other credits include productions like Shrek and Saturday Night Fever." "Allow me to also announce that I will be playing Helen Bechdel. And that Fun Home’s creators, Jeanine Tesori and Lisa Kron, will be coming to Manila as well!"
