This past Wednesday, Kate Winslet took the stage at an event arranged by WE, an organization that works towards youth empowerment.
Winslet was welcomed by a thunderous round of applause from the audience in attendance.
During her talk, she hearkened back to a life that was full of bullying--something that so many of us can understand.
During her talk, she shared her obstacles, and how she was able to overcome them.
Winslet said, of her school experience:
They called me ‘Blubber.’ Teased me for wanting to act. Locked me in the cupboard. Laughed at me.
And then, when it came to her entering Hollywood, she said:
I didn’t look right, and all because I didn’t fit into someone else’s idea of ‘perfect.’ I didn’t have the ‘perfect’ body. And I would rarely hear anything positive.
