J.K. Rowling Takes On Trump After His Meryl Streep Tweet

"When A Pleasure Becomes A Duty."

Meryl Streep gave an epic acceptance speech at the Golden Globes. People widely accept that her speech, though she never once mentioned Trump, was her way of calling the President-Elect out on his behavior. One portion in particular stood out:

"But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart, not because it was good, it was -- there’s nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh and show their teeth.
It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege and power and the capacity to fight back. It, it kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out my head because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing.
Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose." - Meryl Streep

While the actress never named Donald Trump, or even the position "President Elect," it was clear to most people exactly who and what she was talking about.

Rhymes with Ronald Rump

In a move that surprised exactly zero percent of the world's population, Trump took to Twitter to insult Ms. Streep.

Never "mocked"? We've seen the footage, homie.

Celebrities took to Twitter to respond, but none did it with quite the mic-dropping elegance that J.K. Rowling did when she responded to a tweet from writer Aaron Gillies. She seems so positively unbothered that it's almost magical.

Some duties are more pleasant than others

Rowling has come out as a serious hero for the people via social media this year, particularly as it relates to Mr. Trump. You can see some of her most delicious burns here.

Here's to hoping she spends the next four years letting us all know exactly what's on her mind. Cheers, JK!
