Prince Tribute By Jennifer Hudson And Broadway Cast Brings The House Down

Communal theater experience celebrates Prince's music with help from Jennifer Hudson.

The world lost an incredible musical talent on Thursday, and the cast of Broadway's The Color Purple paid tribute in legendary fashion following their evening show. Led by the powerful vocals of Jennifer Hudson and breakout performer (and the show's star) Cynthia Ervio, the cast gave an emotional performance of Prince's classic "Purple Rain," encouraging the audience to join in.
Theater goers lucky enough to be there live will remember this one for years to come, and I'm glad that it's been captured on video for all to enjoy. The heavens rain purple tonight as many celebrate his life and the music he left behind. Watch the moving performance below, and grab the tissues first. You've been warned. Oscar®, Golden Globe® and Grammy® winner Jennifer Hudson appears in The Color Purple in her Broadway debut as Shug Avery, though Cynthia Ervio's stirring performance as Celie has lit the New York theater scene on fire this season. Miss Hudson will be appearing in the production through May 8.  H/T YouTube
