Despite the LGBT characters in HBO's Game of Thrones being killed off (Spoilers ahead) - like with Loras Tyrell's tragic end, and when Renly had his fate sealed with a shadow monster that emerged from Melisandre's womb, it doesn't mean George RR Martin is not an ally for the gay community.
Regarding incorporating more gay characters to Game of Thrones, Martin declared at a 2014 book convention, "I’m not going to do it just for the sake of doing it."
"If the plot lends itself to that, if one of my viewpoint characters is in a situation, then I’m not going to shy away from it, but you can’t just insert things because everyone wants to see them,” he explained.
So some of the non-progressive contingent were vexed when Martin shared a positive message in honor of Pride.
Rest assured, users from the community expressed their appreciation for his support in droves.
