As of Wednesday, March 15, Demi Lovato has been sober for five years.
That's an impressive milestone and a reason to celebrate.
There was a time when the 24-year-old singer didn't think she was going to make it to her 21st birthday. She's battled eating disorders, alcohol and cocaine addiction.
In 2010, she checked into rehab three months after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
She spoke to American Way magazine about her struggles in rehab.
"I didn’t go into treatment thinking, ‘OK, now I’m going to be an inspiration. At times I was resentful for having that kind of responsibility, but now, it’s really become a part of my life. It holds me accountable," she said.
She archived her journey to sobriety and posted it on Instagram along with an inspirational message.
"So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession," the pop singer said.
