Rachel Maddow's Response After Being Inadvertently Addressed As 'Sir' Is Brilliant

COMMENTS

Congressman Bill Pascrell casually finished an interview with Rachel Maddow by calling her, 'sir.'

It happens. No biggie, despite the potential embarrassment for the congressman.

But watching Maddow's off-the-cuff response to the minor lapse upped her awesome factor by a couple notches.

The two were wrapping up a discussion about Pascrell's push for Trump to release his tax returns. Rachel ended the segment saying, "Congressman Bill Pascrell is a member of the House Ways and Means Committee who's pushing as hard as anybody on this issue."

The openly gay MSNBC host said, "Thanks for being with us and keep us apprised, sir."

The congressman replied, "Thank you, sir," and quickly realized his slip and corrected himself by saying "ma'am."

Had the circumstances occurred with another host, the exchange could've ventured into awkward-land. But, Maddow reacted with aplomb and saved her guest from any embarrassment for the innocent slip. Without pause, she responded, "It’s all right, I answer to both."

She laughed and continued in the same breath, "It’s actually quite convenient in unexpected places…you’d be surprised. We’ll be right back..”
