On Wednesday, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of "Below the Beltway" waged the bogus challenge on Twitter, offering Trump a weapon and venue of his choosing.
Weingarten apparently did not forget Trump's pompous remark at a rally in Iowa last year when he boasted about the tremendous amount of his supporters boosting his confidence.
"I could stand in the middle of 5th ave, shoot somebody & I wouldn't lose any voters," he said.
Weingarten facing off with Trump drew a willing audience on Twitter. One user offered up suggestions for the weapons of choice:
William Shatner, however, did not find Weingarten's humor amusing.
Weingarten, on a duel-challenge streak, went after Shatner.
Shatner fired back:
But the duel already seemed to be well underway.
Trump has yet to respond to Weingarten's playful invitation.
