The relationship between the press and the Trump Administration has not been off to a good start in this first week.

The week's not-so-greatest hits between the administration and the press include, but are not limited to: Sean Spicer's scold session not even seven days ago, whereby he excoriated the press for reporting inaccurately on the size of Trump's Inauguration crowd, Kellyanne Conway creating the term "alternative facts" to justify baldfaced lies, and Trump bragging and insulting the media in his first television interview.
The media has not taken this lying down, however. As of yesterday, they began banding together and sharing resources in order to ramp up the journalistic reporting aspect of journalism; if the Trump administration won't give them answers, they will discover them themselves.
And then, last night, the New York Times published an article about receiving a call from Steve Bannon, Donald Trump's chief strategist, and the editor of alt-right publication Breitbart News.
Among the words that Steve Bannon uttered in his call to the Times, here's the quote that stuck with the press:
The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile. I want you to quote this: The media here is the opposition party. They don't understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.
It should be noted that Steve Bannon, who very infrequently gives media reviews, is known far and wide as a massive manipulator of the media. He knows how to create news, he knows how to get headlines, and he knows how to direct public discourse.
Is he doing the same thing here? He certainly could be.
That being said, the media jumped to attention when they heard about Bannon's suggestion that they "shut their mouths." Many words found their way to Twitter as journalists fired back at him.
But none had as great a response as CNN's Jake Tapper, who's really been enjoying himself by sassing the Trump Administration during his show at every turn. Last night's response was one of his less wordier ones, but it was still a hoot:
