CNN is responding to a video tweet that Donald Trump sent out on Sunday in which he is seen punching a person with CNN's logo superimposed over their face.
The original video is from an appearance Trump made on WWE's WrestleMania back in 2007, in which he beat up Ed McMahon.
The edited version originated last week on a pro-Trump Reddit thread before being tweeted by the President.
CNN was not amused.
In a response that was read by Reliable Sources anchor Brian Stelter, the network said that they are taking the tweet "very seriously," citing concerns for their staff.
The full statement read:
It is a sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters. Clearly, Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the President had never done so. Instead of preparing for his overseas trip, his first meeting with Vladimir Putin, dealing with North Korea and working on his health care bill he is involved in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office. We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his.
