Giovanni's Pizza Manager Spreads Christian ValuesA Kentucky restaurant owner is refusing to back down from playing Christian music and printing Biblical phrases on customer receipts. BJ Blackburn owns a Giovanni’s Pizza in Prestonsburg, KY. Blackburn has heard complaints from customers about the music and Bible verses, but he is insisting on operating with Christian values. From CBS News:
"God's been good to us and we just wanted to spread that to everyone that came in here," BJ Blackburn, co-owner of Giovanni's of Prestonsburg said.
Blackburn took his message to Facebook, and in a matter of hours it has reached thousands of people. The response has been mixed.
One person said in part, "If I want religion I will go to church." Blackburn said it is not about pushing his religion on anyone. "It's not one of those things of hey you got to believe like us in order to eat here, we're not trying to push that on anybody," Blackburn added. Some people are now flocking to the pizza joint to show their support. Donna Dutton, a patron, had this to say.
I think Christians are persecuted too much around here anymore. We are a Christian nation, supposed to be.
Blackburn says this view is his own and does not reflect the views of the Giovanni’s Pizza franchise. The event is reminiscent of Mike Huckabee’s Chik-Fil-A Appreciation Day back on August 2nd, 2012. Back then Dan Cathy, the COO of Chik-Fil-A, made the following controversial statement:
I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, "We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage". I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about. The company followed up with a clarification of supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit” which only fueled the outrage by gay rights groups. In response to the outcry against Cathy and Chik-Fil-A, Mike Huckabee called for a national appreciation day, which was one of the most financially successful days in Chik-Fil-A history. However, I don’t think hundreds of thousands of people will be running to Giovanni’s Pizza anytime soon.
