A Barnacle is a sea creature that clings to the bottom of boats. It isn't pretty. It's kinda gross. It's really hard to remove. The Barnacle parking "ticket" is a new product with an extremely appropriate name.
Kevin Dougherty, the President of a company called Ideas That Stick, describes The Barnacle perfectly, so I don't have to:
The Barnacle definitely gets your attention. It attaches to the windshield using commercial-grade suction cups that provide 750 lbs of force per suction cup. There is no brute force way of getting it off. It’s got a motorist-release feature which allows people to pay over the phone and enter a code on the Barnacle keypad. The device then automatically releases and the person drops it off within 24 hours to a predetermined location.
Sounds like a massive pain in the patoot, don't it? Well, perhaps you shouldn't have parked your car like a non-law-abiding jerk in the first place! Personally, I think The Barnacle is the perfect punishment for a parking criminal. It's bright, yellow, and obnoxious. Everyone who passes by will know you've done wrong. Also, good luck getting it off or ignoring it!
To be clear: police officers won't be walking around carrying twenty or thirty of these massive things when they go out on their rounds. This product is an improvement on the "boot" that officers place around the tires of notoriously problematic parking offenders. It's less cumbersome, more noticeable, harder to remove, and can be rigged up from the safety of the sidewalk, sparing officers from standing in the busy street.
Are you ready to see this sucker (ha-ha!) in action? It truly is a wonder of modern engineering. If your answer is yes, click the button down below and check it out. If you want to see The Barnacle in real life, it's presently the parking punishment solution in the cities of Salt Lake City, UT, Allentown, PA and Fort Lauderdale, FL. Take a trip to check it out! Just be careful where you park.
