These are fertile times for reboots, trilogies, expanded universes and such - and luckily for the tweens of yesteryear, the beloved Princess Diaries might indeed see another release.
Despite it being a neat 16 years since the first Princess Diaries - long enough, you might say, for an entirely new Princess to be introduced to court - author Meg Cabot offered a sly, "Who knows?" when pressed about the existence of a third script. Original director Garry Marshall had intended to create a third with Anne Hathaway before his passing in 2016, and a few months ago Julie Andrews had made a few overtures about the movie being planned as a 'tribute' to the late director.
The involvement of the original author - and her attendant, smiling dodginess when questioned - has the fans thoroughly jazzed. Though they have mixed opinions as to where the story should go.
Soak it in, Twitter. This is news we've been long waiting for.
